Jesus commended the church at Ephesus because they “tested those who say they are apostles and are not, and have found them liars” (Revelation 2:2, NKJV).
This means Christians are not expected to accept every spiritual claim, prophetic word, miracle, or ministry title without examination. Jesus warned that false prophets would come in sheep’s clothing, but He also gave us a standard for discerning them: “You will know them by their fruits” (Matthew 7:15–20).
Paul likewise warned that false apostles can appear to be genuine ministers of Christ:
“For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ” (2 Corinthians 11:13, NKJV).
How, then, do we test those who claim to be apostles or prophets without becoming cynical, suspicious, or unjustly critical? What biblical fruit should we examine? How do we distinguish genuine spiritual power from deception—especially when something appears righteous or supernatural?
Join us for this important Apostolic Perspectives Zoom gathering as we examine the biblical standards for discerning false christs, false apostles, and false prophets.
