What is your God-given spiritual gift mix?

What is your God-given spiritual gift mix?

In this short teaching, I explain how your unique design can be understood through three biblical categories of spiritual gifts: the Romans 12 gifts of the Father, the Ephesians 4 gifts of the Son, and the 1 Corinthians 12 gifts of the Holy Spirit.

After publishing Hit the Mark: 8 Timeless Principles of War Authored by the LORD of Hosts, I began showing how these same biblical principles can help people, churches, ministries, businesses, and leaders move from vision and theory into operational reality.

Over the years, I have used these principles in the Navy, with Fortune 100 companies, with churches, nonprofits, small business owners, and leaders in many nations. They also serve as part of the foundation for the One Church One Day strategy, which has equipped leaders in 38 nations to mobilize and unite the Church in a city or region to pray and work together.

The spiritual gifts questionnaire is one practical tool to help you gain insight into how God made you, how He wired you, and how your gifts can become part of a personal strategy for your life, calling, and assignment.

Scriptures I used to present in the house church.

God created these days for your purpose.

Psalms 139:13-14  – For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;  Marvelous are Your works,  And that my soul knows very well.

Psalms 139:16 – Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, The days fashioned for me, When as yet there were none of them.

You are unique, a masterpiece, made with a divine purpose for these days.

Ephesians 2:8-10 (NKJV) – For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

Strongs Concordance: g4161. ποίημα poiēma; from 4160; a product, i.e. fabric (literally or figuratively): — thing that is made, workmanship.  AV (2) – thing that is made 1, workmanship 1; that which has been made a work of the works of God as creator.

God wants us to bear long-term fruit.

John 15:16-17 (NKJV) – You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you. These things I command you, that you love one another.

Each person’s work will be tested at the judgment seat of Christ to determine their reward.

1 Corinthians 3:11-15 (NKJV) For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, each one’s work will become clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one’s work, of what sort it is. If anyone’s work, which he has built on, endures, he will receive a reward. If anyone’s work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire.

God made mankind to work.

Genesis 1:26-27, says, “….let man have dominion…” while Genesis 1:28 says, “Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”  Then Genesis 2:15 goes on to say, “Then the LORD God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it.”  Tend can also be translated as work.

God placed each of us in a specific place in this world to fulfill our designed purpose.

 Acts 17:26-27 (NKJV) – And He has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined their preappointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings, so that they should seek the Lord, in the hope that they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us;

Gifts of the Father

Romans 12:3-9 (NKJV). Serve God with Spiritual Gifts – For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith. For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function, so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another. Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, let us prophesy in proportion to our faith; or ministry, let us use it in our ministering; he who teaches, in teaching; he who exhorts, in exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.  Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good.

Gifts of the Son

Ephesians 4:7-12 (NKJV) But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ’s gift. Therefore, He says: “When He ascended on high, He led captivity captive, And gave gifts to men.” (Now this, “He ascended”—what does it mean but that He also first descended into the lower parts of the earth? He who descended is also the One who ascended far above all the heavens, that He might fill all things.) And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ,

Gifts of the Holy Spirit

1 Corinthians 12:4-13 (NKJV)  There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills. Unity and Diversity in One Body  (cf. Eph. 4:1–16)  For as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ. For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free—and have all been made to drink into one Spirit.

Each of us runs our own race, that’s personal, but each of us also has a place as part of the team, part of the LORD’s body, His Church, His Eklessia.

So don’t make the mistake of comparing yourself with others.  The only thing we ought to compare our lives to is God’s word.  Therefore, the only one you compete against is yourself. It is like it is an individual sport.  So there is a personal responsibility and a call to fulfill our purpose.

At the same time, Ephesians 6, Matthew 16:18-20, Ephesians 3:10, Ezekiel 37:1-11, and so many other scriptures reveal we have a corporate role to play as well.  …. Reveal there is also a corporate role.

1 Corinthians 9:24-26 (NKJV). Striving for a Crown – Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it. And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown. Therefore, I run thus: not with uncertainty. Thus I fight: not as one who beats the air.

What do you want heaven to record?

2 Timothy 4:6-8 (NKJV) Paul’s Valedictory – For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.

This provides context for the Spiritual Gift Questionnaire.  Why do I want to know what gift mix you are?  It is because scripture admonishes me to:

Know those who labor among you.

1 Thessalonians 5:12 (NKJV) And we urge you, brethren, to recognize those who labor among you, and are over you in the Lord and admonish you,

It is wise to do a self-assessments.

1 Corinthians 11:28…. “Let a man examine himself.”

2 Corinthians 13:5 (NKJV) “Examine yourselves” as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you are disqualified.
