Why I turned this man over to Satan is revealed in 1 Timothy 1:18-20. I found myself walking in Paul’s footsteps as I had to confront a self-appointed discernment minister who had lent his tongue to the accuser of the brethren.
What Created this Scenario?
On May 31st I received this marvelous testimony from One Hope in Eugene Oregon titled, We Prayed, He Answered: 10 Years of Community-Wide Prayer in Lane County.
It was a marvelous testimony celebrating 60 churches doing the One Church One Day Strategy God gave me. Why it even includes their eyewitness testimony to the signs and wonders which marked their launch which was like the signs and wonders which followed me and is recorded in Operation Rolling Thunder. But the highlight for me, was not that they had continued in this apostle’s doctrine for 10 years, but rather, it was the display of servant leadership, love and the character of Christ that had to have been modeled for a decade.
Within 24 hours of receiving this amazing testimony I was sent this via Messenger from a brother in England saying how shocked he was to see this.
It was a hit piece! A character assassination delivered by a self appointed discernment minister who was obviously a cessationist. But what was remarkable was the timing. He released this at almost the exact same time as the amazing testimony of the benefit of receiving the work of a modern apostolic gift.
Who in heaven or on earth would want to discredit this amazing testimony? Well, it was clear to me that it was none other than the accuser of the brethren. But the question was, did I really need to respond?
This Was Not the First Time
Over the years I’ve been called and accused of several things which were not true. Why at one point a minister, one which I’d worked for free for several years wrote a book about betrayal. I was told three couples were highlighted in that book and we were one of them. The consequence for me was, that year roughly 60% of my invitations to speak were withdrawn. This occurred more than two decades ago.
Did I say or do anything to defend myself? No! Why? The LORD told me to say nothing as the Lord reminded me of how Philippians 2 reveals that Jesus made Himself of no reputation but took on the form of a bondservant. So, I left my reputation in God’s hands and continued the work my Heavenly Father assigned me to do.
About ten years later I was marvelously vindicated. In 2008 I was invited to train leaders from the 10 Northeastern States and equip them with Operation Rolling Thunder. It was the first time since we’d launched ORT that I was going to deliver the training in person outside of the state.
So, I land in Albany, New York, and I am picked up from the airport. On my way to the first pastors meeting my driver gets a call from none other than the guy who wrote the book in the 90s. He gets permission to come to this meeting. I called my wife and another minister, one who was like an elder in my life, asking them, “what on earth is God doing here?” Their response was, God was showing him that he did not have the power to destroy my life.
Days later I was winding up my training with the leaders from the Northeast. Unbeknownst to me, prophets were among the group whom the Lord told to hold a service to commission me as an apostle. As we finished the last meeting, they sprung the word on me and held the commissioning service. Guess what sign and wonder marked that time during a 24-hour period? Thundersnow! It was witnessed by about 25 people and was reported by the Weather Service.
What are the odds that God would orchestrate something like that? Talk about a supernatural vindication.
This Case Was Different
It was more than just a personal attack on me. This man was endangering his soul as he’d made himself an ally of Satan, an enemy of God Himself as he acted like a modern-day Pharisee. He mocked the apostolic gift Jesus gave the Church. It was blasphemy.
But then, he blasphemed the Holy Spirit. That’s the one sin that cannot be forgiven. In the video I’ll explain why.
He was also sinning against Jesus’ Church. He was sowing discord, slinging slander, facilitating gossip and backbiting. As a minister of the gospel, I was duty bound to protect His Church and to do, model, what God’s word says to do.
I Did not React… I Responded
I was led to address this to not only confront the lies of the accuser of the brethren, but to also set an example of what I think church government, elders, and ministers ought to be doing in the body of Christ today. It would have been easy to have responded back 20 days earlier with a video in rebuttable.
How to do the Word in a Social Media World
But Matthew 18:15-19 and Galatians 6:1 lays out us a very different plan. In fact, in the last several years we’ve seen God’s fire purifying His Church. What has been revealed is not only the lack of character in many ministers, but also the lack of church government and the courage to actually do God’s word for the sake of accountability.
I saw this as an opportunity to:
- Demonstrate the difference between a true minister and a self-appointed discernment minister who is actually building a business: a YouTube empire.
- Attempt to model God’s love and correction in a social media world.
- Highlight KLI’s application of covenant based on God’s word and why we have an “Accountability Council” as well as an “Apostolic Council of Elders.”
- Shut the mouth of the accuser of the brethren while destroying the work of the devil like Jesus did in order to protect His Church, honor the many unknown apostolic and prophetic gifts Jesus deployed in cities around the globe.
- Possibly help deliver this man and those whom he has proselytized from the error of their ways as sowing discord among the brethren is hated by God. I would hate for them to hear “depart from me, I never knew you.”
