Teach Us to Number our Days

Some of you know we were finally impacted by the Wuhan Virus during the last weeks of August and in early September.  What was most disappointing to us was that it kept us from traveling to join Sean Feucht’s team at the National Mall in DC on September 11th.  That being said, our convictions regarding God’s word, His truth and what the adversary is doing has not changed one iota.  If anything, our conviction is only more firmly resolved in the truths and warnings I’ve shared over the last years.

I wanted to share with you the first word I heard the Lord speak as my health returned. You see, I’d not been able to read or focus for more than two weeks but on the first morning I was able God spoke powerfully through Psalm 90.  Verse 12 jumped off the page.

Psalms 90:9-17 “For all our days have passed away in Your wrath;  We finish our years like a sigh.  10 The days of our lives are seventy years;  And if by reason of strength they are eighty years,  Yet their boast is only labor and sorrow; For it is soon cut off, and we fly away.  11 Who knows the power of Your anger?  For as the fear of You, so is Your wrath.  12 So teach us to number our days, That we may gain a heart of wisdom.  13 Return, O LORD!  How long?  And have compassion on Your servants.  14 Oh, satisfy us early with Your mercy,  That we may rejoice and be glad all our days! 15 Make us glad according to the days in which You have afflicted us, The years in which we have seen evil.  16 Let Your work appear to Your servants,  And Your glory to their children. 17 And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us,  And establish the work of our hands for us; Yes, establish the work of our hands.”

We’ve seen evil, now Lord, in mercy, let your work appear to Your servants.  Lord, let us see what You want done.  Just like Moses made the tabernacle according to the pattern he saw, just like King David designed the temple that Solomon built.  They saw!  Your work appeared to them.  We find the same pattern with Jesus. John 5:19 says, “Then Jesus answered and said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner.”

It’s a Beautiful Thing to See & Obey

As we put our hands to the work, as we put our faith into action motivated by the love of God and simultaneously informed by the wisdom of God, then the beauty of the Lord begins to appear.  To that we can cry like in verses 17 saying, “and establish the work of our hands for us; Yes, establish the work of our hands.”

This is how we lend our lips and hands to build eternally.  Using kingdom authority, we willfully choose to submit our little world, our kingdom, our will to His and as we do, we build His house and establish His will, on earth as it is in heaven.

That is a beautiful thing.

As I’ve contemplated this word it caused me to think about what God showed me.

Guess what this changes at KLI?  In one sense, nothing!  We’ve been privileged to have our heavenly Father reveal to us many things regarding His will, His house, and His way and we will continue to seek to fulfill the assignment He has given.  In fact, as I looked back over the last many years, especially the last three years my conviction has only grown in that I realize how much God spoke to and through me to warn us and prepare us.

At the same time this changes everything, because wisdom teaches us to number our days.  It causes me to look back and examine the impact of what Christ gave me has had upon others. I’m examining my stewardship.  I’m looking at the breadth of the audience, which is small, and then I’m looking at the impact on people’s lives and asking, “Father, how could I have been a better steward of what you’ve put within my hand?”

Therefore, in our upcoming leadership summit we’ll use this question to put a demand upon our faith and ask how can we more effectively serve the marvelous group of men, women, leaders, ministers, churches/ministries whom Christ saw fit to align us in a kingdom leagued together for His purpose.

I expect God to give us wisdom and I would appreciate your prayers.  I would also encourage you to take a moment and consider if you ought to take a look at the number of days you have left before you enter eternity.  What has Christ assigned you?  What did He show you?  Time is short, eternity is long.  There are rewards for how we steward our short span of life.

Psalms 39:4-5 “O LORD, make me know my end and what is the measure of my days; let me know how fleeting I am!
5 Behold, you have made my days a few handbreadths, and my lifetime is as nothing before you. Surely all mankind stands as a mere breath! Selah

Matthew 16:27 27 For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father’s glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what they have done.
